After graduating from Westminster College in 2020, Administrative Assistant Sam Schaefer became one of the first people to work at the newly-opened Legends Rec-Plex.
“I went to high school at North Callaway. I’ve been around here forever,” she said. “They were building Legends while I was going to school in Fulton; I never saw it until I got the job. It’s cool.”
In Sam’s role as admin. assistant, she assists customers at the front desk of Legends and administrative assistance to the Parks & Recreation Department. Throughout her time with the City, she has also been called upon to assist with the duties of open positions and has learned about things she didn’t expect.
“I help with setup and cleanup for events in the building,” she said. “I headed up the Festival of Lights and Field of Joy organization this year – just the organizing, the maintenance guys did everything else – running through rentals, memberships, program registrations, and keeping the facility clean, neat and organized.”
Sam said her favorite part of the job is interacting with the public as they come through Legends. Since the facility opened, she’s gotten to know the regulars.
“I’ve built relationships with the patrons and customers of this building,” she said.
Sam said her work/life balance is very important to her. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
“I’m very person-oriented outside of work,” she said. “I like going bowling, and going to dinner is huge.”
