Getting Trash Away the Right Way

Automated trash collection is a safe and efficient way to collect trash, but it requires a little cooperation between the City and residents. Please make sure there is no loose trash in the cart. Any light, loose items like paper or empty plastic bags need to be placed in a larger trash bag that is tied off. Loose trash that blows out before or during tipping is the resident’s responsibility. The City is responsible for it once it gets into our truck.

Placing your cart properly helps too. Roll it to the curb before 6:00 a.m., but not more than 24 hours prior as stated in City Code 94-112, to guarantee collection on your trash day. Then remove the cart at the end of the day to stay in compliance.  If left on the street, carts can look unsightly and interfere with traffic.  The automatic arm needs to have at least three feet of space on each side between the cart and any obstacles (mailbox, fence post, etc).
