Residential Trash Collection
On your trash day, the 90-gallon carts provided by the City needs to be rolled out to the curb by 6:00 a.m to ensure that it’s picked up. All trash should be bagged before it is put in the cart to prevent it from blowing around during automated collection.
Look for notices here, or on Fulton Area Community Television (Channel 5 on Charter Cable) for a holiday schedule. Special pickups can be arranged for bulky items or large volumes of trash by appointment. Call 642-3421 to make arrangements or fill out the Solid Waste Service Request Form. Rates are $14 for the first five minutes and $1.67 for every additional minute the staff needs to load your materials.
Residential Yard Waste Collection
Yard waste is defined as leaves, grass, clippings or brush less than two feet in diameter and other yard vegetation. Missouri state law bans yard waste from burial in a landfill and so it may not be mixed with trash.
How to place yard waste at the curb:
- Yard waste must be placed into paper bags or tied in bundles.
- Paper yard waste bags may be purchased from private retail stores or from the City of Fulton at the following locations: City Hall, the Purchasing Warehouse or at the scale house at the landfill. Paper bags can be delivered to your residence by calling the Solid Waste Department at 642-3421.
- Plastic bags will not be accepted.
- Bags must not contain anything but yard waste!
- Tree limbs and trimming not wider that 2 feet in diameter must be bundled and tied with twine no larger than 18 inches in diameter, less than 50 pounds per bundle and not more than four feet long.
- Bags and bundles must be placed between curb and sidewalk, or as close as possible on streets without a curb. They can be right next to your recyclables, but please leave three feet between your yard waste and your 90-gallon trash cart.
- Whole trees will not be accepted and uncut branches.
- Roots and root ball of brush and trees are not considered yard waste and may be brought to the landfill.
- Have bags and bundles on the curb by 6 a.m. on your trash day.
Residential Curbside Recycling
Curbside recycling is a voluntary program and collected on the same day as trash and yard waste. Using this program, however, will reduce the amount of trash thrown away. You are also creating jobs in Fulton at Kingdom Projects.
How to place recyclables at the curb:
- Use clear or transparent bags, or open-top cardboard or paper containers than can be recycled.
- You can put aluminum and steel cans, plastic soda and milk containers, in the same bag.
- Put all papers, magazines, books, telephone books, paper sacks, and any other paper in a clear bag.
- Break down all cardboard boxes and put them in a bag or tie them up with twine or string and place them at the curb.
- Bags and bundles must be placed between curb and sidewalk, or as close as possible on streets without a curb. They can be right next to your yard waste, but please leave three feet between your recyclables and your 90-gallon trash cart.
- Have bags on curb by 6 a.m. on your trash day.
The Fulton Freecycle Network is open to all who want to “recycle” that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it’s a chair, a fax machine, a piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you’re looking to acquire something yourself, just post a “wanted” request. Nonprofit groups are encouraged to participate too!
Please note: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.
Residential Household Hazardous Waste Program
The City of Fulton has been awarded a grant from the Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District under the approval of the Department of Natural Resources to open and operate a facility to collect household chemical wastes. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center accepts paint, paint thinners, varnishes, used motor oil, other automotive fluids, antifreeze, batteries, acids, bases, pool chemicals, pesticides, and other household chemicals and unused pharmaceuticals.
